Last night, Walter Raes opened his show ‘Dun Roamin’ at St Joseph’s Hall at the Brompton Oratory, as part of the London Design Festival. Walter Raes presents his new installation called Dun Roamin’: a meticulously worked vintage room, where every design piece has been transmogrified from found objects. On close inspection the traditional British suburban space delivers a sharp comment on waste, as every familiar object turns out to be a pile of inventively re-assembled trash.

His show partners, Debra Franses Bean and Sofie Mollekens of Trashilicious are showing Wearable Art alongside Raes’ and his installation. They work also with recycled objects. Behind Raes’ wit and visual punning is a serious message. “There’s so much waste, it makes me cringe. I want people to know how much effort goes into manufacturing everyday things,” he says.
