London Design Festival - report

The ninth London Design Festival which ran from 17 -25 September 2011, was the biggest yet with 312 events brought to the capital by 242 partners, a 25% increase on last year.  With an audience of over 350,000 attending Festival events and more than 2m people experiencing large scale outdoor installations, the London Design Festival can now claim to be the world’s biggest audience for a design event, with visitors from over 50 countries recorded. There were 65 shows and events at Festival’s central hub at the V&A and the Museum has recorded a significant 60% increase in visitors during the Festival period.

The eight key Design Destinations featured the major group shows including: 100% Design, Tent London, Origin, Tramshed, Decorex and designjunction and involved 1,220 companies and designers. Commissioned Landmark Projects showcased installations at the V&A, the Southbank Centre and St Paul’s Cathedral, all of which were highlights of the Festival. In addition to these, the six Design Districts (including Brompton Design District, Covent Garden Design District and Shoreditch Design Triangle) hosted 78 events.

The 2012 London Design Festival will take place from 15 – 23 September.
