Andy Martin Architechts design studio’s concept for Chan ‘pan-Asian’ restaurant and bar at ‘The Met’ hotel, Thessaloniki, Greece, is a lively fusion of modern aesthetic and traditional Asian motifs. Designed by Australian architect, Andy Martin, it opened to acclaim for it’s dazzling interior and innovative cuisine, Chan is the “destination”. Chan has been awarded its 2nd award in 2011 this time for lighting design which AMA devised with the assistance of graphic designers Farrow Design, and L+DG who were responsible for the technical design.
Andy Martin Architechts conceived a serene black aluminium box to which were applied backlit Asian graphic treatments, such as abstract bamboo patterning to the walls and the Japanese Karesansui garden graphics to the ceilings overlaying the dining tables. This was achieved with the technological assistance of NES light panels in the UK, using side emitting LED technology.
