The relationship between intimacy and identity is a recurring element in the work of visual artist Jan Marechal. Marechal communicates with the observer through familiar forms, often throw away materials, dismantling them and then putting the various dismantled parts back together again to form a new world that is overflowing with imagination. This recontextualising renders the forms both strange and familiar. There is tension and relaxation. The powerful porcelain objects which Jan created for the online gallery MOOZEUM claim their place in the observer’s surroundings and give the space its own identity.
