The traditional "Schloss Hof" chandeliers from the glass arm family by Lobmeyr was the starting point for the project Basket by Marco Dessí. The approach only reinvents the use of glass tubes, and also draws upon the vast variety of different types of chandeliers to carry over the glass arms to an altogether new application. Dessí selected the shape of traditional laterns as a template and used hexagonally bent glass tubes in combination with silken cords creating a structure resembling a typical woven basket. The lighting unit was selected to be a twisted spiral on a slim pole with halogen bulbs. This resembles a double helix further stressing the natural look and feel of Basket.
Basket is shown by Vessel Gallery at the Superdesign exhibition in London between October 14th and 17th.
