Diamond Chair by Nendo.
Diamond Chair by Nendo.

The chair Diamond by Japanese design crew Nendo is is based on the atomic structure of diamonds. IWith the strong but flexible design, Nendo looks to  fuse the existing opposing concepts of “strong yet solid” and “weak yet flexible”. The artificial structure is tangible but transparent; it seems complex but also natural and uncomplicated. The diamond chair expands and contracts as though it is breathing, making the pillars quiver and contract in response to human movement.

Diamond chair is developed through the use of a 3D-printing technology called selective laser sintering (SLS). The chair has been printed in two pieces that snap together. the technique is extremely fast; a chair can be developed in five to six days, making it a intriguing prospect for the future. The short time space makes stocking unnecessary, and hypothetically the chair can be printed anywhere, which means no tranportation of anything else than digital CAD files.
