Philips presents the world's first commercial OLED lamps

Philips has launched the world's first commercially available OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diode) module, called Lumiblade modules. These modules comprise the OLED, a socket and base and come with all necessary driving electronic components. The modules can be connected together, ready to use in sectors such as retail, office and home.

The modules provide a soft, diffuse light offering a soothing ambiance. They are available in warm white light to create an atmosphere that is very close to natural light. In addition, they are flat and run on very low voltage so they are easy and safe to integrate into luminaires, furniture and interior designs.

To bring it to life and showcase the calm, glowing and subtly diffused light of Lumiblade, Philips
has partnered with leading designers. Kristin Knappstein, Philips’ OLED Business Creation Manager, says:

- We opened our Creative Lab to partner with designers to explore, create and bring this new technology to life.

The collaboration with Jason Bruges Studio resulted in Mimosa. Mimosa is an artwork featuring Lumiblades modules. Delicate light petals form flowers which open and close in response to visitors.
