This year the Salone del Mobile took place while the Island volcano spread its ashes over Europeen skies, and caused numerous flight cancellations and closed airports. This effected of course also the Milan fair, where many of the foreign buyers who were planning to come over the weekend, never showed up. Despite the problems the exhibitors were in general pleased with the outcome. For example Gärsnäs recieved a very good response, mainly Åke Axelsson's chairs which attracted buyers from the Asian market, as well as other.
Editor in cheif of Nordic Interior Annika Silver tells us more:
- When compared with last year, we still saw colorful furniture, represented mostly in the modern design area. But the "slick", a bit wacky expressions had landed a little and we found that designers had put more energy into making more comfortable chairs and sofas. We also noticed more classical features on modern furniture. The colors were slightly muted. For example, the previously popular lime green had been replaced by more mature green tones, towards kakhi or more dull green grass. The only color that really stood out loud and clear was red.
- Bath and kitchen area was big this time around, especially the bathrooms presented many beautiful forms. Even here we saw many traditional forms as the basis for a bathtub, a sink and a toilet. The colour white still reigned, and other popular ones were cerice, green, purple, burgundy and gold. In addition, we saw many bathtubs in Corian and similar materials.
