Karim Rashid has created the bathroom collection AX20 for Axia. The deigner explained his design ideas:
- When I first starting working with Axia I was interested in their willingness to explore future opportunities that can be found in a modern bathroom and to stray away from the all too familiar archetypes seen in so many modern bathroom designs. This was evident in their AX 10 bathroom which explored scale and innovation and which sparked my interest in our collaboration.
He continues:
- For our project I aimed to re-design the bathroom concept working with warm shapes and materials. I wanted a softness that would semantically speak to the act of cleaning oneself in a natural organic context. While a minimal bathroom can be quite beautiful when designed and manufactured with great skill, my aim was to do something more human, decorative and altogether more inviting and sensual, a place where one may escape, meditate and relax. To do this I worked with an organic 3D pattern that has soft indentations with crisp edges that make the surface of the pieces catch light in a way that creates a visual depth while still maintaining surfaces that can be cleaned easily.
The AX 20 collection combines these pebble shaped indentations with the warm richness of the wood or the high gloss resin inviting the body to touch and immerse itself in a comfortable and serene spa-like environment.
