Contrasted sofa

Annika Göransson is a 26 years old Swedish designstudent living in Copenhagen. She is also a student at the Danish Design School and has recently won the Upholstery competition initiated by the Upholstery Guild in Copenhagen. Her winning design is Ostrea, a two-seats sofa for the public space. She talks about her design:

- I was inspired by the 19th century’s bombastic divans and armchairs, which were richly decorated with tassels, fringes and drapes. I converted the old ornamentation into structures and translated the bombastic shapes into a flowing, organic form. The oyster’s structure and colours also inspired me, hence the name which means oyster in Latin. I further worked with the contrast between rough and smooth, light and dark.

The construction of the sofa consist of a base sculptured out in dense styrofoam. The sofa is covered partly with cold foam for comfort , the woollen fabrics are glued on and sewn together by hand.
