Contemporary Irish artist and designer Rachel O’Neill launched her latest collection of designs at the prestigious International Contemporary Furniture Fair in New York City this May. Over the past year Rachel has been building on her existing product range of unique lighting sculptures, created from Velcro, by developing an exciting range of newly designed wall panels inspired by musical rhythm and texture.
As a keen pianist, Rachel has integrated her knowledge of musical structure with her design creations and will include a series of quirky chandeliers and wall pieces. She has selected three key aspects with which to focus the collection; pulse, melody and texture.
Rachel has utilised a monochrome colour theme, translating as the heartbeat, or pulse, of the collection. She has illustrated melody through the curvaceous lines and voluptuous shapes of the Velcro ribbons, which weave and meander melodiously throughout each piece. Texture has been accented in tones of vibrant reds and pinks with finishes in luxurious metallics, dazzling glosses and opulent mattes.
Speaking of her latest work, Rachel stated; “It has been a huge creative journey to successfully amalgamate my love of playing music with my passion for design. However, the challenge of achieving a delicate balance between the two this new collection has both excited and delighted me”.
