The name "hot dog" is highly appropriate for the sofa by Karim Rashid: It comes from the long rounded proportions of the layers from the front view of the sofa. However, the designer stresses that the name should also be used as slang, and then interpreted as "risk taker" or ‘"one that boasts". The idea to the hot dog sofa came from the idea of
a sofa with different layers of cushions with one layer that was split and swung out to
create armrests making it work both for two or three people. The colurs of the cushions can be combined freely, adding a graphic element to its surroundings.
