Design by technique

Series 28 by Omar Arbel.
Series 28 by Omar Arbel.

The distorted, spherical shapes with their composed collection of inner shapes is a result of a technique developed by designer Omer Arbel whereby air is intermittently blown in and then sucked out of an intermittently heated and then cooled glass matrix. One of the inner glass shapes houses a low voltage 20 watt halogen/xenon lamp or a proprietary 0.25 watt LED head.

The whole fixture consists of 28 pendants, designed to cluster in hexagonal shapes which nestle into each other to create patterns as dictated by the needs of the interior. The fabrication technique ensures that each pendant produced is completely unique in form from every other. The pieces are shaped more or less by accident during production. The chandelier is height adjustable, and can range in size from 3 to 19 pendants organized in a central sculptural configuration, or in an ambient
composition.
