The Tubular Steel Desk S 285 by Marcel Breuer was designed in 1935, and was a result of the designers experiments with the then rather new material tubular steel. The design is pure and highly functional, and the S 285 has become a design icon during the 75 years that has passed since it was originally designed. The tabletop and storage elements of the desk are made from varnished or stained wood, harmoniously fitted into the tubular steel frame, which forms one continuous, curving line.
The special editions celebrating the 75th anniversary of the desk are Ladies' Edition, with a white, open.pore finish tabletop and storage elements lined with fabric in bright colours. The Men's Edition features wooden elements and a bleach finish. The drawers are lined with leather.
